The family chronicle begins with Ramchandra Ganesh Kanade, a Konkan-born administrator-soldier who rose in Maratha service and died leading a relief column near Vajreshwari in 1780.

01 / OUR LEGACY
One root.
Many generations.
The Kanade inheritance is not a claim to grandeur. It is a record of people who kept faith with what had been placed in their hands.
The family chronicle traces our name from the world of the eighteenth-century Maratha Confederacy to Rajapur, where later generations cultivated the land, sustained worship and kept the household intact. In the twentieth century, the family moved outward, to Bombay and Pune, then Europe, America and Japan, without entirely losing sight of home.

02From 1781
The return to Rajapur
After his death, the household returned to its ancestral ground. Farming, family and quiet stewardship replaced public ambition, and preserved the line through the colonial centuries.
03The Konkan decades
Custodians of worship
At Rajapur, the family’s identity became inseparable from land, ritual and responsibility for the local temple tradition. Custodianship was treated not as privilege, but inherited duty.
04The 1920s onward
Rajapur to Bombay
Aba Kanade carried his artistic gift to Elphinstone Mill, while Indira held together the ancestral household and raised seven children. Their partnership opened the family’s modern chapter.

Today, the Kanade Kutumba spans Mumbai, Pune and Rajapur, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, Pennsylvania and Japan. The branches differ in language, profession and daily life. What holds them together is not sameness, but remembered belonging.
